What began as a resolution has blossomed into a “global health mass movement”,now observed in over 180 countries, with some sources indicating over 175 countries and 12 lakh locations, witnessing participation from more than 10 crore individuals. This widespread acceptance, transcending nationality, region, religion and language, unequivocally affirms yoga’s universal appeal. The Transformative Philosophy: “One Earth, One Health”
The theme for this year’s International Day of Yoga, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, resonates with a profound truth: the intrinsic interconnectedness of all entities on Earth. Prime Minister Modi eloquently articulated that human well-being is inextricably linked to the health of our planet from the soil nurturing our food to the rivers sustaining life and the delicate balance of ecosystems shared with animals and plants. Yoga, in its essence, awakens us to this very interconnectedness, guiding us on a journey from individual care to a broader concern for our environment, society and the entire planet. This philosophical shift, often encapsulated as the journey “from Me to We,” mirrors India’s cultural ethos of universal welfare Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, meaning “may all be happy”. In a world fraught with tension, conflict, and instability, yoga emerges as a vital “pause button”, offering humanity the opportunity to breathe, balance, and achieve wholeness. The Prime Minister urged the global community to embrace “Yoga for Humanity 2.0,” envisioning a future where inner peace evolves into global policy, fostering a peaceful, balanced, and sustainable
world free from conflict. Andhra Pradesh’s Exemplary “Yogandhra” Initiative Andhra Pradesh demonstrated remarkable commitment to this global movement through its “Yogandhra” campaign, an initiative launched on 21st May, which meticulously trained over 1.44 lakh yoga trainers and registered more than 2.17 crore participants across 1.4 lakh locations. The campaign’s success was underscored by the incredible feat of 22,125 tribal students who achieved a Guinness World Record by performing 12 rounds of Surya Namaskar
simultaneously in just 15 minutes. This monumental achievement, witnessed by Union Minister Shri Pratap Rao Jadhav, stands as a testament to the state’s dedication and the power of collective participation. Chief Minister Shri Chandrababu Naidu expressed pride in hosting the event, acknowledging Prime Minister Modi’s vision in popularising yoga globally and the role it plays in achieving “Viswa Swarnandhra 2047” – a healthy wealthy and happy Andhra Pradesh, integral to a developed India.Cultivating a Culture of Wellness: Beyond the Mat.The significance of yoga extends far beyond a single-day celebration; it is a discipline meant to be woven into the fabric of daily life.Prime Minister Modi highlighted various efforts to integrate yoga into modern society:Signature Programmes: The 10 prominent signature programmes launched this year include Harit Yoga (Green Yoga, inspired by ‘One Tree for Mother’ and Mission LiFE), Yoga Connect, Yoga Park, Yoga Bandhan, Yoga Mahakumbh, and Yoga Sangam, observed by 10 lakh organisations nationwide.
